Celebrated Ogden staple Marc’s on Market will close on Oct. 28, the restaurant’s owners revealed late Sunday night.
“Well, we just sent out our e-mail announcing that after more than eight and a half years, we will be closing the doors…” chef Marc and Sara Copenhaver posted on Marc’s on Market’s Facebook page around 11 p.m.
“We are so grateful for all of the friends we have made, and hope to keep in touch as we head out on a new adventure.”
Details about the closing were not immediately available.
Since opening in February 2004, 72-seat Marc’s on Market, 7213-B Market St., just north of Masonboro Loop Road, steadily gained attention, Billed as a “contemporary” restaurant, Marc’s won positive reviews from various publications.
Marc Copenhaver in 2008 and again in 2011 earned Wilmington Top Chef status at the Taste of Wilmington Food and Wine Festival professional cooking competition.
Also in 2011, the restaurant placed third in the N.C. Department of Agriculture’s Best Dish in North Carolina contest’s fine-dining category. The prize recognizes chefs using local foods.
Marc’s menus change seasonally, as do cooking classes the restaurant offers. The Best Dish winning chicken-fried lamb with country ham pan gravy was an example of Marc’s modern, creative, elevated comfort food style. Diners regularly praise Marc’s soups and the appetizer of tempura green beans with kalamata olives. Other favorites are braised short ribs and housemade desserts ranging from espresso crème brulee to old-fashioned coconut layer cake.
